Pennsylvania Chapter, Palatines to America

Selected Photographs, IV

Hans Jacob Landis (1167-1730), a 1717 immigrant to the area that became Lancaster County, is connected to the home here. The portion on the right, which is difficult to see, dates back to the mid-1500s. It is called Moosacher and is located one mile northwest of Hirzel, Switzerland. It is believed that this site is the ancestral home of most all of Pennsylvania Landis/Landes families. For more information see, Joanna Hess Siegrist, “Landis Homestead near Hirzel, Canton Zurich, Switzerland,” in Mennonite Family History, volume XXVI, number 3, July 2007.
